About the Water Industry Alliance

Formed in 1998, the Water Industry Alliance is a respected industry cluster of water-related organisations focused on growing its members business and the industry.

We work to connect our members with the world and the world with our members and stimulate markets by promoting awareness of policy, management and technology solutions.

Our members include international water companies, national firms and well-established local companies.

The combination of R&D, consultancy, engineering, technology, manufacturing, education, operations and commercial know-how provides the members of the Water Industry Alliance a unique ability to offer proven, efficient and cost effective solutions, processes and equipment required by global markets.

Our experienced research and development sector involves universities, international water companies and Government agencies, all with direct links to the Water Industry Alliance.

We conduct national and international events and tours showcasing these Australian solutions and how we link research to industry product development.

Collectively, our members have grown annual exports of South Australian water technology products and water management services from $25m to $511m with accumulated exports exceeding $2.9bn.

JUDITH BRADSEN (CHAIR)
Cowell Clarke

Judith has been a member of the Water Industry Alliance Board (and Deputy Chair) since 2010.

Judith is a Special Counsel at Cowell Clarke Commercial Lawyers, as part of its Energy, Resources and Environment practice group. Judith has been a strong supporter of the Alliance since its inception. She has brought to the Board insights into the legal and policy issues that rise for the Alliance and is generally valued for her thought leadership in the development of sustainable water projects.

Judith is also a member of the Law Society's Planning, Environmental and Local Government Committee and the SA Branch of the Australian Land and Groundwater Association.

ROBRAN COCK (DEPUTY CHAIR)
TRILITY

Robran is the Regional Operations Manager for South Australia and Western Australia for TRILITY, the market leader within the Australian water utilities sector providing a full range of water utility services.

Robran has over ten years experience in the water industry in a variety of both technical and business development roles. His passion is in treatment plant operations and improving the efficiency of operations through initiatives which meet the social, economic and environmental objectives for sustainable systems. He is also committed to raising the profile and importance of the water industry through participating in education programs wherever possible.

Robran has a diverse education background holding undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering and science with masters degrees in business administration and environmental engineering.

KEITH DOWNARD
Tonkin Consulting

Keith Downard is Operations Manager for Tonkin Consulting. Tonkin Consulting has been providing engineering and scientific consultancy services to the private sector and to state and local government for nearly 60 years.

Tonkin Consulting practices in the fields of water, environment, transport, urban development, state & local government, and mining & resources. Tonkin’s head office is in Adelaide and it has offices in Berri and Mount Gambier to help support regional South Australia as well as offices in Darwin and Maroochydore.

Over a 30 year career Keith has worked for both private consulting companies and for government agencies. Keith has a long term interest in water resources management, particularly stormwater management and reuse, catchment management and the opportunities that partnerships can bring to better utilise water resources.

Well recognised within the water industry, Keith has a wealth of experience managing and providing leadership for large multidisciplinary projects.


LIONEL HO

Allwater

Lionel is currently the Client Liaison Manager at Allwater. He completed his PhD in 2004 from the University of South Australia and has over 16 years’ experience in the water industry. He has a strong water research background having authored over 120 scientific publications.

Lionel was previously the Chair and Vice President of the AWA SA Branch Committee and sat on the Strategic Advisory Council of the Federal AWA. He currently sits on the IWA Australia Committee, AWA SA Branch Committee and the Editorial Board of the AWA Water Journal. Lionel holds adjunct positions at the University of Adelaide (Affiliate Lecturer) and University of South Australia (Associate Professor).

MICHAEL LEVENE (TREASURER)
Micromax Specialists in Automation

Michael has 20 years’ experience working within manufacturing & infrastructure and is passionate about making South Australian companies more competitive globally. He has an electronic engineering, manufacturing and finance background, giving him a unique understanding of not just technical issues, but the financial challenges facing today’s businesses.

Michael has served on the board since 2011 and as Treasurer since 2012. He has served on the irrigation subcommittee, awards sub-committee and finance subcommittees. He is also a founding member of the Water Industry Alliance’s WaRDA group. Michael is active in supporting business in South Australia and growing the Water Industry.

JIM MCGUIRE
SA Water

Jim is General Manager Commercial & Business Development. This role includes overall responsibility for delivery of SA Water’s substantial capital program and also focuses on business growth for the organisation. The Australian Water Quality Centre reports to Jim also providing globally recognised water testing services to both SA Water and many other clients across Australia and overseas. Jim joined SA Water in 2011 initially as Senior Manager Procurement and led a significant transformation of the procurement function.

Jim’s career prior to SA Water has included key leadership roles in both the private and public sector, including the energy, and banking, as well as consulting.

Jim has also been active in building broader professional capability across Australia and championed reform initiatives which saw the creation of a new global standard procurement professional body and other key joint collaborative activities bringing together private and public sector organisations for common good.

ANDREW SARICH
RPC Technologies

Andrew Sarich is the General Manager of RPC, a South Australian company that hold the exclusive Australian manufacturing and support licence for FlowtiteTM, the worlds most advanced and respected continuous wound GRP pipe system, technology and brand. FlowtiteTM GRP pipe and fittings are ideal for water infrastructure, irrigation and environmental management applications, particularly where performance, strength and endurance are essential.

Andrew has broad management experience in all major business disciplines and has worked in previous senior roles providing engineered products and solutions to the water industry both domestically and internationally.

ALISTER WALSH
Waterfind Australia

Alister Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of Waterfind Australia, has a mission to lead the development and growth of water markets across Australia.

With over 15 years of experience in the agricultural sector, corporate finance and water risk management strategies, Alister oversees the company’s strategy, digital transformation and strategic partnerships, among other areas.

Under Alister’s leadership, Waterfind Australia has won the 2015 South Australian State iAwards for Regional Inclusion and Community category, acknowledging the company’s support for regional community growth, through innovative information and Communications Technology solutions.

A board member of the Water Industry Alliance, Alister represents a rare level of expertise and experience in all water management facets: water risk strategies, water resource accounting, water policy, rules and regulations, law and trade protocols. Over the past 8 months, Alister has presented at 4 industry events and is a prolific contributor to the water news space, by providing thought leadership pieces and regular commentary.

TIM WATERHOUSE
Sentek

Tim has served on the Water Industry Alliance Board for a number of years and in 2010 was elected as Chair.

Tim is former MD and now a Director of Sentek Pty Ltd, which for 21 years has designed, manufactured and internationally marketed “best in class” soil moisture and salinity sensors and display software. He was a Director of the CRC Irrigation Futures for all of its seven year life. He is also a Director of Australian Water Investments. And prior to that worked in senior positions within Telstra and the Government.

He maintains a passion for growing SA industry, especially through industry led planning and collaboration. Tim’s particular interests are in the irrigation, water and IT sectors with a focus on strategically focussed small business development. He mentors a number of SME's in the water and IT fields.
